This is the second of a three part series introducing the 2023 fellows.
In this week’s post we have Iftikar Hussain Siddique, Krupa Anilkumar, Mrinalini Ravindranath and Pramod Kale.
Iftikar Hussain Siddique is a paralegal volunteer working on citizenship rights. He is working on creating access to legal aid by conducting awareness and empowerment camps at the community level and by training other paralegal volunteers. He has worked with multiple organizations, researchers, academics, and institutions at grassroots-level and helped people get legal representation during the pandemic.
Krupa Anilkumar is an educator and an educational researcher based out of Kerala. Her interest lies in developing evidence based transformative pedagogic models which can facilitate social transformation through education. During the course of this fellowship, Krupa will be working on an action research project conducted by Sahapaadi, which she co founded, in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha Kerala on understanding the benefits and challenges of using dialogic pedagogy for the gender education of pre-service teachers.
Mrinalini Ravindranath is a lawyer/researcher and research head at the Criminal Justice and Police Accountability Project (CPA Project), Bhopal. She has previously focussed on research and advocacy at the National and South Asia level around themes of increased incarceration of vulnerable groups at the intersection of gender and criminal law and specifically through the issues of child marriage and criminalization of sexuality. During the fellowship she will be involved in litigation and research around the disproportionate targeting of oppressed caste communities by police institutions and advocate for accountability.
Pramod Kale is working on increasing access to education for students of the Pardhi community, a denotified tribe. Under the fellowship he will work on making elementary education accessible in the districts of Ahmednagar, Pune, Solapur, Osmanabad and Beed in Maharashtra. He will focus on developing teaching learning material in their language i.e Waghri towards a rounded learning which will include includes poems, riddles, comic books, stories etc.
