Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts (ACMA) 2022: Sravan Selvan and Dhinesh Kumar
Sravan Selvan and Dhinesh Kumar are the recipients of the Attakkalari - Inlaks India Foundation Scholarship 2022. Both recipients have been performing since they were children. Sravan is a dancer while Dhinesh has a background in theatre.
In this blog post they share with us their aspirations and sneak peeks into their programme at Attakkalari.
Sravan Selvan
Sravan Selvan has been dancing from a young age. Exploring the sphere of movement arts is his ambition. He hopes that his time at the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts (ACMA) will not only introduce him to endless possibilities in dance and movement, but also be a stepping stone to a master’s degree in dance from a university abroad.
Attakkalari is already helping him realise the potential of his body. Although he has been at ACMA for a month, he can already feel incredible progress in terms of flow, flexibility and agility. He has explored movements beyond his imagination.
Prior to Attakkalari he was a choreographer who mainly practiced Bollywood dance. He has also spent the past two years studying Locking and Hip Hop at Myself And My Moves ,Thrissur.
In the future, Sravan hopes to be an independent and renowned movement artist.
Dhinesh Kumar
Dhinesh Kumar has been passionate about drama and performance ever since he was a child. From a young age he has found himself on stage with an inclination for Tamil theatre.
Although he has a background in theatre, he chose to attend the programme at Attakkalari so as to allow himself to explore movement in a way that he has not done before. He also looks forward to engaging with performance art forms across India. Dhinesh is especially interested in physical theatre and movement arts.
In the sea of theatre and movement arts he hopes to create a small boat to enable him to flow with the tides. During his time at Attakkalari and thereafter, he hopes to push his physical and intellectual boundaries and create a practice that is an amalgamation of all that he has learnt.
