Awardee Update: Aqui Thami

Aqui Thami is one of the five Fine Art Awardees of 2018.

Sister Library is a travelling library powered by female excellence supported by the Inlaks Fine Art Award 2018. It is an evolving and generative artwork that engages in in-depth reflection on the visual and reading culture of our times.

The goal of the project is to bring together readers to explore the literary contribution, showcase the artistic quality and celebrate the contributions of women in the creative world as well as to foster interests and understanding of the accomplishments of women writers and artists.

Sister Library holds a hundred works of women writers, artists and zine makers. This curated mix of hundred works of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, zines and periodicals will be taken to six different cities. Mumbai, Delhi, Cochin, Pune, Goa, and Bangalore, since these cities have a rich mix of artists and artist-run spaces that are working towards change making i wish to collaborate with these space to share the travelling library in form of an exhibition.

People will be invited to interact with the exhibition as well as create their own work at the activity space which will be a part of the exhibition. The intent is not only to facilitate reading of female authors but also to create a safe and non-judgmental space for people to come together and explore the pleasure of reading and creating.

The significance of the Sister Library and the reason for moving it to new spaces is that the piece is constantly modified by its interaction with the people.

i cannot emphasize enough on the importance of works of women in the creative world therefore as a part of the project i will video document responses of people who interact with sister library. This documentary can be screened towards the end of the project.

The expected outcomes of the project are :

- Providing a unique experience to be immersed in works created by women exclusively

- Creating a new narrative, providing the space to ask questions, to look and to think about the answers.

- Video documenting responses of people who interact with sister library when encountering exclusively women’s work in such abundance.

The documentary can be screened towards the end of the project. The works produced during the display will be put together in the form of an independent publication.
